Barbascura X is an Italian chemist, science populariser, stand-up comedian, writer, author, theatre performer, singer-songwriter and youtuber from Taranto.

He is considered one of the most influential science popularizers on the web, and the first in terms of number of followers. His main column is Scienza Brutta, the famous and irreverent science popularisation series on nature in satirical sauce. Since 2021, he has also been the author and host of popular science TV programmes, as well as a satirical monologue/stand-up comedian for Comedy Central. He is the winner of the 2020 Giancarlo Dosi National Prize for Scientific Disclosure. His TEDx talk was the 15th most viewed talk in the world in 2021.

He has a degree in organic chemistry with a specialisation in chemical synthesis and bioactive compounds, and a PhD in green chemistry and synthesis of materials from renewable sources. As a chemist, he has worked in major laboratories throughout Europe (France, Holland, Ireland, Germany and Spain), but has always dedicated himself in parallel to his activities as a creator.
